Playing with Popping, Rustling, and Airy Sounds Vol.2

2019.12.7 Sound Design Factory in Hamamatsu 2019 (Kamoe Art Center Hamamatsu, Hamamatsu City)

“A workshop for creating sounds and discovering the sounds hidden in cushioning materials.”

In this workshop, rather than creating the same thing, each participant chose various cushioning materials and tools to create their own sounds and then spent time having fun together with the sounds they created.

In the first half of the workshop, the participants experimented with combinations of materials that produced sounds they liked, as well as movements and actions that produce sounds (e.g. repeating the same movement over and over again, devising ways to make many sounds with one movement, methods of moving materials), each creating a sound of their liking

In the second half, participants played a game where they listened to others’ sounds, each playing sounds in turn to the tempo of the metronome. By varying the tempo of the performance and creating new sounds according to the different tempos, the explosive power of creating one sound after another, the concentration of listening to others play, and the development of each person’s ingenuity of movement to perform (produce sound) created a very intriguing experience.”
